Kathmandu - 5 lakh 4 thousand 414 students are participating in the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) starting on Thursday this year. Among them, 250,772 female students, 253,627 male students and 15 gender minorities. According to the National Examination Board, 15,749 of them are technical students.
Compared to last year, this time the number of examinees is 12 thousand less. The exam is being conducted in 2,64 centers across the country, including 27 more this year. Similarly, 23 students of Everest International School, which is run by non-resident Nepalis in Japan, the only examination center abroad, are also participating. This is the third batch from the said school. The board said that there is an arrangement to send the question paper online.
Candidates from 10,806 public and private schools are participating in SEE in the examination to be held till March 27. This time, the SEE exam is going to be conducted based on the new syllabus, the board said. The evaluation of the examinees will also be according to the new letter grading system.
According to the school level curriculum that was changed in 2076, the students who will participate in SEE this year are from the first batch. The new letter grading is also being implemented from this year in the evaluation of the examination and the publication of the results. In which students who do not get at least 35 percent marks in theory will be non-grading in the result. There is a rule that if up to two subjects are not graded, the grade increase exam can be given and if more than that are not graded, the exam must be retaken the next year.
Previously, students who scored 35 marks in both theoretical and practical sections would receive a grade sheet. Now it is arranged that there will be separate grading of theoretical and practical. The new syllabus has arranged that there will be a practical exam of 25 marks in each subject including mathematics and the remaining 75 marks will be a theoretical exam. The experimental test is conducted by the school itself and the results are sent to the board. The method has been applied since 2078 in the evaluation and results of the class 12 exam. In which only about 50 percent of students are successful in grading.
Board Chairman Mahashram Sharma said that despite the new syllabus, it should be taken normally as the students have given exams of similar nature many times. The board has also appealed to the stakeholders to make the examination dignified, clean, orderly, fearless and peaceful. 77 thousand 505 manpower including head of center, assistant head of center, inspector, assistant assistant, staff and security personnel are being mobilized for the examination to be conducted in all 77 districts.
Nandalal Paudel, Controller of Examinations said that the administration of the examination was conducted by the State Government and the District Examination Coordinating Committee of all 77 districts. He said that the question papers, answer booklets and other materials were delivered to the police office near the examination center a week ago after orientation of the personnel including the head of the examination center. Admit cards have also been distributed to the students on Wednesday. The question papers of compulsory subjects will be different/different in all the 7 states.
